Appliance and plumbing failure water removal addresses flooding caused by something inside the home going wrong – a burst pipe, a failed water heater, an overflowing washing machine or dishwasher, or a supply line that let go. These events tend to happen suddenly and without warning, and the water involved is typically clean water rather than contaminated, which affects how the cleanup proceeds compared to flood or sewage situations.
You're dealing with this type of water event if a pipe has visibly burst or is leaking significantly, a water heater has failed and released its tank contents, a washing machine or dishwasher supply line let go while running, or any appliance connected to your home's water supply has malfunctioned and released water into the property. These failures often happen while no one's home, which means water can sit for hours before it's discovered.
We start by confirming the water source has been fully shut off, since continuing to remove water while more is actively flowing doesn't solve anything. Once the source is controlled, we extract standing water using pumps and wet vacuums appropriate for the volume involved, checking beyond the obviously affected area since water from a failed appliance often travels further than expected, especially if it happened on an upper floor and traveled down into rooms below. We set up drying equipment to address both the surface water and whatever's been absorbed into flooring, subflooring, or walls, and we assess whether any materials need to be removed rather than dried in place.
Cost depends on how much water was released, how long it sat before discovery, and whether the water affected multiple floors or rooms, which happens often with upper-floor appliance failures that travel down through ceilings. Properties in Alburgh, VT where the failure went undiscovered for an extended period typically need more extensive drying and material replacement.
